Christmas can be a stressful time of year. You're busy shopping for the right turkey, searching for the perfect wrapping paper, and over-indulging in treats. All in desperate need of a good night's sleep!

Well, look no further for help. Here, we have curated this selection of the best nightcaps that the whole family can enjoy! Simply drink before bed and drift away into a peaceful dream.

 

The Non-Alcoholic Chai Hot Toddy

A hot toddy is the perfect winter warmer. And it doesn't have to be filled with booze to do the job.

  • 1 chai tea bag
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • Stir well with hot water and add 1 cinnamon stick

Classic Hot Milk and Nutmeg

This nightcap is sure to take you back in time - filling your stomach (and soul) with warming comfort. Warm milk is a great choice for all because there's such a diverse variety of milk to choose from.

If you're a dairy lover, obviously choose cow's milk. But if you enjoy non-dairy options or have dietary requirements, oat milk and almond milk also work nicely warmed up.

All you need to do is heat your choice of milk with a steamer, in the microwave, or on top of the hob. Then, sprinkle some ground nutmeg on top.

Tart Cherry Juice Spritz

Tart cherry juice is well-known for increasing the body's production of melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone our brains produces in darkness, also known as the 'sleepy hormone'.

  • 1 tablespoon of tart cherry juice
  • Sparkling water
  • Pour over ice and stir!

Sugar-Free Hot Cocoa

Opting for cocoa powder is the best option to add a chocolatey taste if you're planning on using this as a pre-bedtime beverage. Sugar before bed can lead to a poor night's rest. This warm drink can also be made using non-dairy alternatives.

To make, heat your milk in a pan till simmering and slowly add your cocoa powder. If you like things a bit sweeter but don't want the sugar, add a teaspoon of agave nectar.

  • Your choice of milk (1 mug)
  • Cocoa power (add to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon of agave syrup

The Classic Chamomile Hot Tea

This drink can be enjoyed all year round. But there is something special about a warm chamomile tea before bed on a cosy December evening. Chamomile tea has calming and sleep-inducing properties. Simply brew a chamomile tea bag in hot water and enjoy.
